ABOUT THE ARTIST
Su Lousick
Su has a long history of making items, objects, and fashion using native fauna and flora. In August 2022, Su paraded a catwalk look at the Country to Couture fashion parade facilitated by the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation (DAAFF), she called her to look Bogan Original. From the 1990’s to 2017 Su worked as a project officer for a variety of Government and non-Government bodies and community groups facilitating among other things educational activities and events that raised awareness about native fibers, fiber crafts, and cultural practices and protocols on Country, in Sydney and across the far west catchment area of NSW. Activities and events that showcased the importance of water quality, water flows, and sharing information.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Native Fibers, Cultural Practices
I advocate for the use of Spiny Sedge to work with as I believe:
the fiber to be superior in quality and endurance.
has the ability to improve water quality. Being a sedge this native grass surrounds waterways where it grows
if I keep raising awareness about this fiber, people will protect and restore its growth. Ideally to the rate it would have grown prior to the British invasion. But hopefully, at the rate it grew when scientists took an interest in it.
Learning how to identify the sedge is an integral part of the community education service I offer.
